Ricky "Rick" Schropp
Ricky “Rick” Schropp, 73, of Swisher, left us suddenly on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at his home. Military honors will be presented during a Celebration of Life on October 19, 2024, 2:00-5:00 pm, at the Swisher American Legion.
Ricky Keith Schropp was born December 6, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, to Walter and Hazel Schropp. Ricky attended Prairie High School where he excelled athletically as a state champion wrestler, graduating in 1969. Ricky served as a boatswain’s mate in the United States Navy receiving an honorable discharge in 1972. Upon returning from the service, Rick established his home near family and built his house, with help from friends, which was one of his proudest accomplishments. Ricky married the love of his life, Julie Serbousek, on February 4, 1984, in Shueyville, Iowa. Together they built a family and partnership that endured life’s challenges for forty years.
Rick held a very strong work ethic with any job he faced whether farming with his family, working construction or operating heavy equipment. He was recognized for his stubbornness, which influenced his devotion to his family, and he was admired for his willingness to help a friend in need.
Rick most enjoyed the outdoors. Whether sharing his passion for fishing with his family, mushroom hunting in the timber, deer hunting with friends or just maintaining his property. Rick also enjoyed being “Papa” to his grandsons and held a special place in his heart for all his beloved pets, most recently his schnauzer “girlfriends”, Ellie and Izzie. Ricky will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife Julie, daughters, Sara Engledow, Katie Duffield (Beau) and son, Kyle Schropp. Grandsons; Lonny Belding, Colton Engledow, Dillon and Mason Duffield. A great grandson, Royce Belding. mother, Hazel Schropp. siblings, Judy Bracy (Ken), Joyce Sirowy (Rob), Gary (Sue), Jerry, Debbie Takes (Dan) and many nieces and nephews.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father, and grandparents
Per Ricky’s wishes, no traditional funeral services will be held.
Memorial donations may be directed to the family.
