Cynthia Jayne Sutton "CJ"

Cynthia Jayne Sutton "CJ", 74 died unexpectedly of a stroke October 17, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines IA surrounded by her loved ones. She was Born June 30, 1949, in Robinson Illinois, the daughter of Keith A. and Marilyn Jayne (Lewis) Sutton. CJ was married to her wife Carolyn Waddell on December 31, 2010, but had dedicated 45yrs to Carolyn. CJ was a licensed Mental Health Counselor who specialized in EMDR work. She was a teacher at The University of Houston and then later went on to teach at DMACC in Ankeny in Psychology.

CJ worked for Iowa Lutheran services primarily helping low-income mothers and families in the Spanish Community. She ran a women's group from 1995-1996. She was very passionate about helping others. Her passion was to help women, children, and families and began in home therapy to further her passion in the comfort of her home. She dedicated her life work to her family and helping others.

She was a beloved grandmother and mother who absolutely adored all her grandchildren and connected with them all in a very special way, she was a loving and loyal wife. She Loved all animals and her kitties especially. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing with her brother and father at family get togethers in her younger years. She was a woman of many talents and fought hard for 50 years with her MS.  

CJ was preceded in death by her grandparents Dee and Mary (Broadstone) Sutton, grandparents John (J.T) Pauline Huff-Lewis, her mother Marilyn "Jayne" Sutton, her father Keith Sutton, stepmother Martha Sutton and her beloved brother Mark A. Sutton.

Survivors include her wife Carolyn Waddell of Ankeny IA, Her daughter Keri Sutton Johnson and son-in-law Timothy R. Johnson of Newton IA, Her son David Starr of Chicago; son Michael Waddell of Ankeny Ia. Grandchildren James A. Sutton, Antonio R. Garcia (Fiancé), Alexis J. Johnson, Connor R. Johnson, and Bastian Starr. Her sister-in-law Juanda Morgan [Mark Sutton} of Boulder Colorado, nieces Meghan Sutton of Boulder Colorado, Krista Sutton Mendez (Gabriel Mendez) of Lufkin Texas and her Nephew David Sutton of New York and numerous great nephews and a great niece.

The Family will welcome friends and loved one after the service.

Services will be held October 21, 2023, at 2;00pm at Saint Annes Episcopal Church 2110 W. 1st St Ankeny Iowa 50023. Flower arrangements may also be sent to St. Annes for the family to display.

Memorial Contributions may be made to The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and to The Heart Association.
