Bettie Ogden Miller, 93, of Anamosa, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the Anamosa Care Center after a brief illness. Services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Anamosa, Iowa.  Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., the memorial service at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon to follow.  A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Survivors include her five children, Dan (Julie) Miller, Rebecca (Kim) Beardsley, Amy Schirm (Craig Pilcher), Tim Miller, all of Anamosa, and Leland (Teri) Miller of Indio, California, ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Miller, her parents, and her sister, Connie Howell.

Born January 7, 1930, to Parke and Lucile Ogden of Cass Township, Anamosa, Bettie first attended rural school and later graduated as valedictorian of the Anamosa High School Class of 1947.  She married her high school sweetheart, John Miller, on January 7, 1948, in Monticello, Iowa.

Bettie worked at the Jones County Clerk of Court’s office in Anamosa for 30 years.  She loved to travel, and was able to visit many states in the US, as well as Great Britain, France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany.  She was an avid reader and walker.  She was a lifetime member of the Congregational Church (now United Church of Christ), attending its country church in Cass Township as a child, and later the Anamosa UCC church, where she volunteered in many capacities.  She loved to sing, and was a long time member of the church choir.

Bettie will be remembered for her quiet sweetness, thoughtfulness, huge generosity, and most of all her lovely smile and laughter.  She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be so very missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made First Congregational UCC, to be directed to the local food pantry.
