Bernice Wright, 87, of Waterloo, Iowa, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, July 23, 2023.

Bernice was born on May 20, 1936 in Greenville, Mississippi, the daughter of Bill McCloud and Daisy May Jackson-Williams. She attended Coleman High School where she was nominated Best Female Athlete. Bernice led a remarkable life filled with compassion and dedication. She cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, sister, & aunt. She found joy in spending time with her family who will miss her dearly.

Bernice will be remembered for her generous spirit, unwavering support for her family, and her beautiful smile that brightened the lives of everyone she encountered. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all the lives she touched with her compassion and care. 

Left to cherish her memory are her four loving sons: William “Spuddy” Smith, Greg Simpson, Darnell Smith, & Donald Smith; two sisters: Daisy Williams & Minnie Smith; along with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, & nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas “Tommy” Wright; Parents: Bill McCloud and Daisy May Jackson-Williams; Daughter: Janice Collier; Son: Charles Smith Jr.; Sister: Gladys Montgomery; Brothers: Willie Mae Montgomery, Walter Montgomery Jr., & Andrew Williams Jr.

A memorial service to commemorate the heroic life of our beloved Bernice Wright will be held on July 29, 2023 at 2:00 pm at her son William’s home. This sacred occasion will be reserved for family to gather and pay homage to a life well lived and a heart that overflowed with love.
