Marcus Allen Klatt I will miss you my nephew. I held you the day you were born, I watched you grow and learn exceptional skills in the things you love to do. I enjoyed you as a adolescent learning the milestones of life and moving past obstacles. You seemed unstoppable when you set your mind to something. I will cherish the memories I will forgive myself for thinking I could change your mind, I will love you forever and do my best to be there for all that you left behind my shining Sun. Forever until the end of Time all my love.

I am so very sad to learn of Marcus' passing. I had the honor of being Marcus' teacher. In kindergarten, Marcus was quiet and LOVED to draw. It was always fun to point out Marcus' Grandpa Tom to him when our paths crossed in the Novak building. Such a sweet young man. Please know that I am holding your family in my heart and mind as you walk this difficult journey together. Pam Hackbarth

Dear Marcus, I lived in New York when you were born and did not really get to know you until moving back to Iowa three years ago. What a remarkable young man you had become: brilliant, creative and enterprising, yes, but more important, a person who loved and felt deeply— sometimes too deeply, which is the common fate of the most sensitive. Our conversations revealed to me a compassionate and empathetic man, one who devoted time and care to your little brother and gracious regard to your elders. Your hugs were frequent, spontaneous and always treasured. Happily, you and I were aligned on the fraught subjects of religion and politics, and I saw the spark that, given time, might have bettered the world even than you did. I will do what I can to advance our shared values, remembering, and missing so much, your hopeful energy. “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.” If that is so, as I believe it is, then your grace and compassion will flourish as long as good people press on. Rest in love and peace, Great Aunt Lorna
