Dorothy F. Birky, 93 of Cascade, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Shady Rest Home in Cascade.  Private graveside service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life will take place at 1;30 pm, Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Community of Christ Church in Hiawatha, IA.

Survivors include a son Harvey (Josephine) Birky, of Red Oak, Iowa, daughters Diane (George) Barber, of Cascade, Iowa, Sandy (Ed) Gau, of Dubuque, Iowa,  9 grandchildren, Lynn (Dan) McDermott and Lisa (Ron) Roling all of Cascade, Iowa, Emily (Brian Mapes) of Powhatan, VA, Tim (Allison) Donovan of Monroe, Wisconsin, Rose (Wes) Hodgson of  West Des Moines, Iowa, Ted (Katy) Birky of Johnson City, TN, E.J. Zbylut, John (Laurie) Donovan of Bernard, Iowa and Nicole (Eric) Wingert of Omaha, NE; 17 great grandchildren, Ashley (Cody) Grill, Wil, Justin, Molly and Elizabeth Roling, Tyler and Nicole McDermott, Dylan, Lucas and Audrey Mapes, Zoie and Cambrie Donovan,  Violet and Theo Hodgson, Keriana Birky, Tyler Wingert, Garrett Donovan and a great grandchild coming in November and a great-great grandchild in February 2022.  

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harold.

Dorothy was born July 1, 1928 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Ted and Laurine Clark.  She married Harold Birky on June 10, 1948 in Cedar Rapids.  Dorothy was an administrative assistant for 22 years for John S. Vara Company.  She was a lifetime member of the Community of Christ Church,  a former President of Eastern Iowa Quilter’s Guild and a longtime volunteer of the Red Cross.  Dorothy enjoyed making quilts for her family, charities and others but most of all she loved spending time with family and friends. She will be dearly missed.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Hospice of Dubuque or Community of Christ Church.  The family would especially  like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, with a special thanks to Julie, Scott and Suzanne, and also the staff of Shady Rest/Acura Healthcare of Cascade and River Bend Assisted Living for their kind and compassionate care.
