Dear Martha, I was so sorry to learn of the passing of your husband Herbert. To have had as many years with such a wonderful man is surely a blessing, even as you grieve the loss of your life's companion. Please know that I'm thinking of you during this difficult time. With deepest sympathy, Katrina
Martha, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your husband, Herbert. So difficult a loss, your life partner. I wish you peace and comfort in the days ahead. I will be thinking of you and hope that before long, our wonderful Ladies Literary group will meet in person!
Dear Martha, I was so sorry to learn of Herb's passing. He was of such fine character and kindness. we shared many adventures during the brief time I worked at CSI. I have to tell this one. I worked with Herb in 1973 while I was in college. One day we went out to spray a sewage lagoon at Tama Pac in Tama, Iowa. Herb backed the boat trailer down the steep side of the lagoon, we off loaded the john boat and sprayed the lagoon. we could not get the boat back on the trailer, even after many tries. Implementing Plan B, I was standing on the trailer at the waters edge holding the hook to snag the bow of the boat as herb came roaring towards me{it was not a very fast boat}. He hit the trailer so hard i was knocked of into the sewage lagoon, I wasn't hurt but I smelled HORRIBLE. I thought Herb was going to make me ride in the back of the truck all the way home, or maybe worse, in the back of the boat behind the truck. He didn't, however. He let me climb into his nice truck and we stuck our heads out the window all the way home. Martha was not pleased with either of us. What a fine and decent man he was, It was an honor to know him,John Lensch
Martha, Fae and Liz. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. John and I always enjoyed the time we spent with you and Herb.
Martha and family- My thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of Herbert. He was always so kind, was one of my favorite clients, and I enjoyed the many physical therapy visits I had with him over the years. May your memories bring you some peace and joy.
What a loss for the community and your family! He was all about family and happiness! Enjoy those great memories! Prayers are in the works!
As a young man I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with "Otis" (We called eachother by our middle names). We took several trips together, both business and pleasure, logging time in the Mooney. I remember the time we were flying at night and her turned off the cockpit lights. It was an unforgettable experience. Otis taught me many things about living. I was blessed to have stood in the shadow of the man.
Hon. Fae Hoover-Grinde - Heartfelt thoughts go out to you in this time of sorrow.

Martha, Fae, and Liz. My deepest sympathies. My thoughts and prayers for all of you. Sandy Long
We had fun talking about Mooney airplanes and spraying weeds one sleepless night at the hospital about a year ago. I have often wondered about Mr. Hoover- with a name that is unforgettable- just like his stories and personality. May he be flying over the Midwest right now!
We were saddened to read of Herb's passing. Our family;s thoughts and prayers are with you.
I remember chatting with Herbert at Fae's investiture. What a proud father he was of his daughters. Our thoughts are with you at the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. Jon and Roberta McCright
Sending our deepest condolences to the family and friends. Lot's of Love, Brook and Lila and our clan.
Herb gave me my first airplane ride. I was probably 12. We were neighbors and he was flying to Spencer to pick someone up, asked my parents if I wanted to ride along. I remember taking off from Cedar Rapids, as we went up he started to make a turn. He turned my way and I think I ended up in his lap. I was sure I was falling out of the plane. After "we" agreed, he gave me notice the next time to let me prepare. Herb was a wonderful neighbor to my parents over the years. A man with a obvious caring heart. Martha, Fae & Liz, you have my deepest sympathy. He is so proud of all of you. Jim Redmond
Herb was one of the kindest men I've ever known, with a smile and eyes that would light up the room. The world is a smaller place without him. My heart is with your family during this hard time. Nancy Baumgartner
