James Richard Buol

James “Jim” Richard Buol, Age 76, passed away at his home in Atalissa, IA on Thursday, December 3, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. The family has requested no services at this time.

Jim was born on February 13, 1944 in Monticello, Iowa. He was the son of the late Raymond John “Jack” and Mildred (Doden) Buol. Jim attended Monticello High School. After high school, Jim enlisted in the US Air Force where he served from 1963-1967. Jim met and married the love of his life, Evelyn LuAnn Rogers on May 19, 1973 in Iowa City, IA. 

Jim worked for Northwestern Bell for 27 ½ years, and then went on to work for Barnhart Custom Services. Jim was a member of the Springdale United Methodist Church for many years, as well as the American Legion, and Jim also volunteered his time graciously to the VA Hospital in Iowa City. 

Jim enjoyed horses, and his beloved therapy dog, Suzy, as well as other past fur baby companions, Heidi and Sasha. 

Those left to cherish Jim’s memory are his wife, Evelyn; sister, Cindy (Doug) Nus; his children, Dan (Mary) Buol of West Liberty, IA, Lori (Eric) Mettler, of Davenport, IA, Jim (Heidi) Buol, Jr., of Eastham, MA; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Bernard, Loren, Jerry, and a grandson, Nicholas.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to Iowa City Hospice or to the West Branch American Legion Post Chauncy Butler, Post 514.
