Melvin Lloyd Trout
Melvin Lloyd Trout was born in Eldora, IA June 5, 1952, the son of Pauline (Lloyd) Trout and Melvin Keith Trout. He passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.
During Mel’s childhood, because of his father’s career, he attended school in Eldora, Algona, and Bloomfield, graduating from Davis County Community Schools in 1970.
After graduation, he relocated to Des Moines, where he became a diesel mechanic, a profession he loved. Also during this time, he joined the Army Reserves. Army was the proudest part of him. When the Gulf War began he changed his status to become active and was assigned to Fort McCoy in WI. He remained in WI until he retired after 20 years.
During his retirement, Mel returned to Des Moines. He spent a significant part of his life helping others. The day of his passing, he was doing what he loved doing, working on a friend's truck.
He is survived by his daughter, Lindsay (Nick) Wendt of Norwalk; two granddaughters, Madelyn and Vivian; his sister, Lori Boyer of Moravia; two brothers, Jim (Leigh) Trout of Trinidad, Texas and Michael Trout of Dorrington, California; Uncle Harold (Mildred) of Eldora; Aunt Margaret Monroe of Eldora. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 uncles and their spouses, 2 aunts and their spouses.
Per his wishes, his cremains will be placed at the VA Cemetery at Van Meter; the service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Mel's name at the Wil-Rog-Mor Post #407 American Legion in Unionville, Iowa, and may be mailed to 33214 415th Street, Unionville, IA 52594-8027.
