Dwayne Richard Kelley

Dwayne Richard Kelley, Sr., 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love on Saturday, April 4, 2020.  A private family service will be held at a later date.
Dwayne is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ruth; children, Rick (Pat), Tom (Carole), Kit (Jeff), Cindy (Joe), Sue; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Preceding Dwayne in death were his parents; three sisters, two brothers and a granddaughter.

Dwayne was born June 15, 1930 in Marion, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Jessie (High) Kelley.  He attended Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids before enlisting in the United States Army as a fireman in Fort Ord, CA.  He was united in marriage to E. Ruth Furman on May 14, 1949 in Anamosa, IA. Dwayne was employed by Nash-Finch, Rock Island Railroad and the Cedar Rapids Fire Dept.  He retired after 44 years as a Real Estate Broker and then worked for Walmart for 10 years.  

Dwayne loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping, biking, running, gardening and was known by his family as “Mr. Fix-it”.  He treasured time with his family most of all and will be greatly missed by those who loved and knew him.

Special thanks go to the staff of the Geriatric Clinic at the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City for their care; to the home health team at Right at Home; and to all at Hospice of Mercy for their guidance, compassion and support.
