Donald Stonebraker
I knew Don when I was an elementary principal in C.R. When I first started in the school system Don was always readily available to me for any professional help and personal support. There are many young children that grew up in C.R.that benefited from Don's leadership and special guidance! He sincerely will be missed.
I was saddened to see of the passing of "Mr." Stonebraker. I had the privilege of working with him at Coolidge. What a bright, gentle, funny man who had the best interest of his staff, students and their families at heart. I worked with many principals in my time with the district. He was one of the best. We are sending love and prayers to you Geri and your family. So sorry to learn about the loss of your father.
So sorry for your loss. I must share that Mr Stonebraker left such a lasting impression on me (for the good). He was my principal at the old Taylor School 57 years ago. He is the only principal I remember by name that I ever had. I remember him walking the halls and calling every child by name. I remember having been sent to the principal's office and having to face him - I got in trouble but I must say I never got in trouble at school again and I must give the credit to him. He looks exactly the same as I remember him. He did so much good for the children of Cedar Rapids - thank your Mr Stonebraker I will always remember you fondly and as a great principal.
Don was my principal at Truman School. I grew to appreciate his skill and insight in handling special ed through staff complications. He was encouraging in advising me on my career. When my mother's heath was failing, he was especially supportive in helping me arrange time away from my classroom. I am sorry to hear of his passing.
So sorry for your loss. Peace be with you.
Don was a great friend, neighbor, & prinicipal. My thoughts & prayers are with you.
After forty years I still recall fondly the years I was at Coolidge with Don at the helm. My wife, Sharon, joins me in offering our sincere condolences.
I taught with Don at Arthur elementary. He was one of the kindest, warm people I ever knew. He looked out for his students, teachers and parents. Not many people like him in this world. Please accept my condolences.
Mr. Stonebreaker was my principal at Grant Elementary. I remember he was always smiling and had words of encouragement for us little kiddos!! I was fortunate enough to run into him when in high school and he had not changed one bit. Still smiling and many words of encouragement! What a true role model... Prayers to the family.
I was sorry to hear about Don's passing. I was fortunate to teach at Coolidge for my second year of teaching in 1982. I was so impressed with Don and learned so much from him even though I was only at Coolidge one year. He showed understanding, compassion and kindness in his relationships with children, teachers, and parents. I have taught at many schools since that time but he was one of the best.
So sorry to read about Don's death Wanelle. My condolences to you and the family.
