Donald Louis Wederquist

Donald Louis Wederquist, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed into his eternal home Sunday morning, January 28, 2018, at the age of 85.

Don was born in Fremont County Iowa, June 1, 1932.  He was educated in the consolidated school district in Randolph, Iowa.  He graduated from high school and worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for two years before the military was calling him.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served on bases in the United States, England and Japan for four years.

He was united in marriage to Eleanor Jean Benedict on July 3, 1952.  After his discharge from the Air Force he enrolled in Kearney State College (now University of Nebraska at Kearney) earning a degree in business and education.  He later earned a Master’s Degree at Iowa State University.  He taught high school and junior high classes in the Westside Schools in Omaha, Nebraska for five years and was comptroller for Mid-Plains Vocational School in North Platte, Nebraska for three years.  His desire to move back to Iowa after being gone for a number of years brought him to Des Moines where he worked for the Department of Education until retirement in 1999.  After retirement he found many things to do to keep busy.  He worked ten years for the Iowa Legislature as doorman and as Sergeant-At-Arms, which he enjoyed until heath issues forced him to retire.

Don left his wife Jean, sons, Scot (Cheryl), Brad (Gayleen) and Craig (Yvonne), seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren to mourn his passing.

Internment will be in the military cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa, with a private ceremony with family.  A memorial ceremony will be held Saturday February 3, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at Meredith Drive Church for family and friends.

Memorial contributions should be made to the family for distribution to his favorite charities and church.
