Donald J. Moore
Donald J. Moore, 85, of Davenport Iowa died unexpectedly on Sunday July 3, 2016 at Davenport Lutheran Home. Per previous arrangements cremation was performed.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 23rd 2016 at 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 1175 Lincoln Rd. Bettendorf, IA
Donald was born in Davenport Iowa, on April 1, 1931, the youngest son of Warren and Ruth (Priest) Moore, and spent the majority of his life in Davenport.
After completing high school at Davenport High (now Central High), Don became a barber. He opened his own barber shop in the 1950’s on West 3rd St. in Davenport. He was an outgoing person, known for his good humor and sincere caring for others.
Don was married to Tenna Hornshog Jensen (a native of Denmark) on September 21, 1960 in Macomb Illinois. Tenna joined him as a barber. They worked together until their retirement in 2014.
He enjoyed tinkering with his cars. Many are probably unaware of his enjoyment of dancing, which was taught to him by his mother, and his trumpeting influenced by his musician father.
Don was raised by his parents as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a way of life he embraced. He enjoyed many opportunities to help others learn of the Bible. He served as an elder in the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years.
Don’s belief in a resurrection to a paradise earth will yet be realized. Until that future event, he will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Kenneth D. Moore. Survivors include his wife, Tenna, and his older brother, Lee Moore of Blue Grass IA. Don and Tenna never had children of their own, but are survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Davenport Lutheran Home for their kind caring service for several family members over the years--besides Don and Tenna, his mother Ruth and brother Kenneth.
