Raymond Roland

Raymond E. Roland, 86, of Fairfield, died Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.  According to his wishes, his body has been cremated.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Steve Winslow’s, 1936 216th Street off South 32nd Street, behind Access Energy in Fairfield.  A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM on October 6, 2015 at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, followed by a Celebration of Life at Steve Winslow’s house.  

Mr. Roland was born November 8, 1928 in Jefferson County, the son of Ralph Clayton and Ruth Lillian Kilburn Roland.  He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1946.  He married Doris Davis in 1948.  They later divorced.  He married Patricia Reece Carruthers in Keosauqua on December 18, 1979.  She preceded him in death on February 28, 2007.

Mr. Roland spent his entire lifetime in the Fairfield, Libertyville and Brighton areas.  He was in the National Guard and later in the Navy, and served in the Jefferson County Posse.  He did carpentry work, maintenance at Parsons College and was a feed salesman.  He loved horses, playing cards, dancing, and spending time with his family and friends.  He was in the Brighton Saddle Club and later in the Lockridge Rough Riders Club.

Survivors include one son, Ron Roland of Fairfield; one daughter, Debi (Steve) Sammons of Mt. Pleasant; two granddaughters, Amy Johnson and Megan Chappell and two grandsons, Michael and Juston Sammons; great grandson Cooper Johnson and great granddaughter, Shawna Sammons; one sister, Linda Burger of Fairfield; nephew, Steve Winslow; and special friend Dixie Ruggles of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; parents; brother-in-law, Dewayne Burger; and niece Cindy Winslow.

Memorials can be made to Parkview Care Center and sent to Debi Sammons at 309 Birch Avenue, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa 52641.
