Charles "Chuck" A. Kitchell
Charles A. Kitchell, 79 of Eldridge, IA, died Friday June 13th, 2014, at Genesis Medical Center-East. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Chuck was born December 15th, 1934 in Atlanta, IL to Cecil and Nellie Kitchell. He married Donna Gerdes on August 19th, 1956 in Pekin, IL.
He graduated from Pekin High School in 1952 where he ran track and cross-country. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Illinois State University, and later his doctorate in Education from University of Southern Mississippi.
Chuck began his teaching career in 1953, and was a physical education teacher in the Davenport school system, where he retired.
Chuck served in the army from 1957-1959, stationed in Fort Riley, KS.
Chuck and Donna (Chardon Beagles) became internationally known as top breeders of champion show beagles. Chuck enjoyed writing, wrote several magazine articles, and published numerous books relative to beagles. He enjoyed the outdoors, planting trees, and working with flowers around his home. He helped coach Dad’s Club basketball and softball and enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. “Papa” was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Chuck had a passion for working with children, enjoyed teaching and coaching them through school, sports, and life.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, sister Cecilia, brother Gary, and son Arlen.
He is survived by wife, Donna; son, Michael (Marysue) Milan, IL; grandchildren, Carly, Tony, Kristy, and Haley; great-grandchildren, Anaya, Arlen, Jordan, and Ashton.
