Dennis D. Swearingen, 64 of Cedar Rapids died Monday February 17, 2014 at St. Lukes Hospital. Per Dennis’ request there will be no service. Iowa cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a daughter Julie (Colby) Schmelzer of Cedar Rapids; one brother Albert and four sisters Shirley, Mary, JoAnn and Joyce. He is also survived by two grandchildren Haley and Ryan. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Dennis was born on March 30, 1949 in Cedar Rapids the son of Albert and Mildred Parmer Swearingen. He married Ruth Baker on November 4, 1982 in Iowa City.
Dennis proudly served in the Army in Vietnam. He enjoyed and was very talented at building cars. Dennis was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.
