James Dixon

James (Jim) Ezekiel Dixon, born July 7, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois, was the son of Richard and Eliza Dixon. He was the youngest of their four children. Early in life he joined Shiloah Baptist Church and accepted Christ as his personal savior. James attended elementary and high school in Chicago, Illinois. He worked in factories there during the years of 1978-1995, after which, he moved to Madison, Wisconsin. He relocated to Iowa City in 1998 where he held a long term position with Bekins Movers. He completed his work career with several positions in restaurants and temporary services. Jim will be remembered for his positive outlook, outgoing personality, witty sense of humor and contagious laugh. He enjoyed sports, singing, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. James passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Solon Care Center in Solon. He fought a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. He placed his faith and hope for eternity in his Savior, Jesus Christ. In that we can rejoice and be thankful that he is now completely healed and is at home in the glorious presence of the Lord. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard James Dixon, uncle, Ezekiel Dabney and aunt, Bernice Booker. He leaves to cherish his memory: mother, Eliza Dixon, sister, Alfreda (Gatlin) Dixon, brother, Richard W. Dixon of Coralville, sister (and her husband), Rev. Theresa (Douglas) Shackelford of Phoenix, Arizona. cousins: Curtis Booker (Coralville) and Linda Johnson (Illinois) nephews: Richard Dixon Jr. (Wisconsin) and Lee Henderson (Illinois) nephews and their wives: Jarrod and Meghan Gatlin (North Liberty), Kennith Bernard and Ashley Gatlin (North Liberty), James and Jessica Dixon (Muscatine, Iowa), Topaul and Teisha Henderson (Victorville, California) niece and husband: Tanya and Brian Gaudet (North Liberty), nieces: Tekea Stewart (Wisconsin) and LaShonda Dixon (Wisconsin), seven grand nieces, six grand nephews and a host of other devoted family members and friends. His memorial service will be held at New Life Community Church, 106 2nd Avenue in Coralville on Saturday, October 12 at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the James Dixon Memorial fund at Veridan Credit Union – account #7361580
