Doug was a special person and I am so grateful for all of the great memories i have of him. The Michigan v.s Iowa football games will never be the same without him to argue with and hear him yell "Go Hawks" while he is surrounded by 100,000 Michigan Fans. Susie, Tracy, Jason you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Love you all. Tony and Amanda.

I was very lucky to have been a part of your family. It doesnt matter that you were not actually my uncle that is what you are Uncle Doug. I will miss you greatly but i have enough great memories that you will always be with me. I wish you could of met my wife Jenny and son Landen as they would of loved you. But dont worry i give Landeb the "Iowa toe hold" for you lol. Be well in your new home and dont worry we all will be together eventually. With all our love Andrew and Jennifer Knight

To my Uncle Doug, I am truly going to miss you. I may not have seen you everyday but I cherished the times I did spend with you. I will miss listening to you and my dad argue over who is better Michigan or Iowa, when it was always clear Michigan was. lol. I will really miss the great big hug and the even bigger yell "hey squirt." Which I always hated but it just wouldnt be uncle doug without hearing it. You are an amazing man and a huge part of my families life. You will forever be in our hearts and greatest memories. I love you! Love: Squirt....... Aunt Susie, Traci and Jason, I love you all and you are all in my thoughts and prayers. You all have been a huge part of my life and I am forever grateful to have you all.

Dear Susie, Traci, Jason and the entire Foster Family, Our hearts go out to each of you on the passing of Doug. We are so grateful you had Doug for a husband, dad and grandfather. May all the precious memories of Doug comfort you in the days ahead. And it goes with out saying Doug passed away loving each of you dearly as he showed it so faithfully when he was alive. Even our children frequently commented that JD's grandpa is so nice. Yes, Doug was very nice to our children, filled with laughter and smiles for all. Our fondest memory of Doug was looking out our front door to see what all the commotion was about, here it was Doug running around like a crazy man chasing JD and Seth in the front yard. By all appearances, Doug enjoyed it just as much as the kids if not more.........what a beautiful memory... Sincerely, The Splittstoser Family

Dear Susie and Family-- I was SO very shocked and sorry to hear of Doug's passing! May God wrap you in his loving arms to give you comfort and may he give you peace in the knowledge that Doug has no more pain and no more worries. Its hard losing your companion, husband, friend, and lover........ Nobody really "knows how you feel".......and it doesn't "get any easier"...... I still remember the fun times we had when we visited you guys---first on Zeller street and then on your little farm. The only thing that makes me smile today is knowing that when Doug reached the heavens----Joe was there waiting for him. I know they are up there laughing and catching up and probably havin' a beer........... Take care and I will continue to pray for you and your kids!!!! ~Debra (Tiger) Henderson

My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Although we didn't have the opportunity to get together often, the times spent with Doug were very special ones. His time here on earth was spent with a smile on his face. He had a way of making others smile; you just couldn't help but laugh and smile when you were with him. My fondest memory of him was when my daughter Katie and I visited him and Susie at the farm. He made us the most wonderful breakfast, made us feel special, like were at a "Bed and Breakfast". That was his way, making others feel wonderful. He will be missed by all who knew him.

To the famuly of my friend, Douglas, The Lucky Pirate, Chief, Captain, Amigo, It is with a heavy heart that I send my sympathies for the loss of your Husband, Dad, Brother, Cousin, Uncle and Grandfather. It is with a joyful heart that I realize Doug's road trip in life has been renewed. I have so many wonderful memories of Doug and the great times that we shared. He was the best friend a person could have. Loyal, caring, giving, kind, fun. He always had an ear to bend and was willing to provide advice. He taught me a lot about life and how to ENJOY life. I always loved his phone calls just to check in and to ask when we were going to get together next. He was always excited to hear from me too. He could brighten my worst days. I miss him so!! He was one person that you could always count on, no matter what. Although this world will not be the same without him, the next world looks brighter and happier knowing that he will be there to greet me with a smile. Until we meet again, my friend, cheers to you and your wonderful family. Love, Doug, The Hairball, 1/2 of The Double D's, Senior, Young Man

Just totally devastated to think that he is no longer here with us. He was a wonderful friend and I will never forget the great laughs and memories we were able to share over a thirty some year friendship. His spirit and memories will be with me forever. No one ever had a greater love for life than Doug. He just loved his family so much...and his grandchildren were truly a joy to him. Miss you Buddy.....

The lucky pirate was one of a kind. I sold Doug and Susan a Ford F-150 several years ago. He will always be one of my favorite customers. Every time he stopped in or called it was a event. I will miss him very much...........

I was lucky enough to spend many fall and winter days in Doug's company chasing and sometimes shooting Iowa ringnecks. Along with his lease partners Doug was an avid hunter and a true sportsman. It wasn't just about shooting. It was about habitat and the environment. I will miss Doug's enthusiasm and the stories he brought to the field. Tonight, I will raise a toast to Doug. I know he would like that. We will miss him. Dave

Susie and family The Pirate was a special person. We had lots of fun playing golf, hunting at Harry Foster's Pheasant Ranch, fishing, cheering on the ST L Cardinals and having some beers doing all of it. My thoughts are with you at this time. May he rest in peace! RT
