Mary Ann Fredrickson, 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away, Monday, December 9, 2013 at Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

A memorial service celebrating Mary’s life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Lowry; Daughter, Lara Fredrickson of Washington D.C.; Siblings, Sallie (Bud) DeBar, Harlan (Mary) Beek, John (Kathy) Beek, Glenda Noordsy, David (Gayle) Beek, Rebecca Tabor, E.J. (Deb) Beek and Esther Williams; Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Ruth Bruns, Bartie Beek, Stephen Beek.

Mary Ann Beek was born September 9, 1933 in Adrain, Minnesota the daughter of Edward and Henrietta (Willemssem) Beek. On August 12, 1960, she married Lowry Clifford Fredrickson in George, Iowa. Mary graduated with an R.N. from Mounds Midway School of Nursing (Hamline University) in St. Paul, MN. She earned a B.S. in Nursing and a M.A. in Nursing Administration from the University of Iowa, and was also an Adjunct Faculty member at the College of Nursing at the University of Iowa. Mary had over 35 years of service to the Veterans Administration in the Iowa City, Oakland and Minneapolis locations. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her,

Memorials may be given in her name to the Mounds Midway School of Nursing Historical Society, 1700 University Ave, St. Paul, MN 55104 or of the donor’s choice.
