Kathleen Elizabeth Wagner

Kathleen McArdle Wagner, 62, of Iowa City, IA and Carlsbad, CA, passed away from complications of juvenile-onset diabetes on January 21, 2012, at HCR ManorCare in Cedar Rapids, IA. As Kathleen wished, her cremains will be scattered at sea. Springtime memorial services are pending in Iowa City and California. Kathleen was born to Eileen McArdle of Berkeley, CA, and the late Dr. J.S. McArdle of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Kathleen studied at the American University in Beirut, Lebanon, prior to taking her BSN from the College of Nursing at the University of Iowa. Her 20 years of nursing service to UIHC included Clinical Research, Medicine and Neurology/Neuro-Surgery. She left UIHC in 1989 to accept a faculty position at the University of South Florida. The last 10 years of her career were spent in clinical trials management with Sigma-Tau Pharmaceuticals, Quintiles Pacific, and Isis Pharmaceuticals. Kathleen''s professional associations included the American Diabetes Association, The American Association of University Women, The American Association of Neurological Nurses, The Association for Women in Science, The Drug Information Association and The Association of Clinical Research Professionals. Kathleen was an elder at Iowa City First Presbyterian Church (Old Brick) prior to her 1987 conversion to Catholicism. She sang with the choir at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Carlsbad. She was active in the International Students Association at the University of Iowa. Among Kathleen''s many compassionate medical professionals, the family would like to specially thank Drs. Craig Dove and Stan Mathew, Saint Luke''s Inpatient Rehab, Cedar Rapids; Ms. Julie Shaw, ARNP, HCR ManorCare, Cedar Rapids; Dr. James Bell and Beth M., RN, St. Luke''s Hospice, Cedar Rapids. Kathleen is survived by her husband David; her precious puppy Tinkerbelle II; her mother; brothers John McArdle of Indianapolis, Patrick (Kate) McArdle of Berkeley, Michael (Diane) McArdle of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada; nephew Jack McArdle of Muncie, IN, and niece Molly McArdle of Berkeley.
