The family of Capt. Ralph Roger Myers would like to announce the celebration of his life with his passing Aug. 21, 2012. Per Ralph''s wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Ralph would kindly request in recognition of his life, that those who cherished his love and friendship, visit a loved one while they are still alive. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements. Capt. Myers''s surviving family include two sons, Steven (wife Tracey) of Pace, Fla and Douglas (fiancée, Karen) of Stevens Point, Wis; a daughter, JoEllen (husband, Gary) Happel of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Scott, Benjamin, Danny, Shannon, Lindsye, Stevie, Seth, Britnye; and 13 great-grandchildren. Ralph is now reunited with his beloved wife, Arlene; sister, Rita Watts; and his parents, Carmen Koppelman and Roger Myers. Ralph enjoyed a full and wonderful life. One of his proudest and fondest memories of growing up in Cedar Rapids was becoming a positive and recognized role model for the Hispanic community of C Ave where he spent his childhood. On April 25, 1951, Ralph married the love of his life, Arlene Sweet in Kahoka, MO. They shared 57 years of heart-warming memories and treasured moments. In 1965, Ralph joined the Cedar Rapids Police Department. His distinguished career is defined by the integrity of his actions and his numerous contributions to the community throughout his years of service. Ralph became Detective in 1969 and Lt. Detective in 1971. In 1973, Ralph was promoted to the position most recognized with his name, Captain. Captain Myers was instrumental in initiating the first community crime prevention classes at Kirkwood Community College in 1974. He also served as an Instructor at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy before retiring from active service in 1994. Capt. Myers''s love for life was only surpassed by his love for his family and friends. His smile and sense of humor could light up the room, and his memory will forever be close to the hearts of anyone who had the honor to know him.
