Junior A. Hinz, 85, of 470 Noah Drive in Anamosa died Tuesday March 29, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids after a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 AM on Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Anamosa. Inurnment with military rites at Holy Cross Cemetery in Anamosa. Friends may call at the Church from 5 to 7 PM on Sunday. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements,.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy, three daughters, Victoria (Rob) Hinz of Monticello, Valerie (Larry) Hinz of Ames and Tonia (Lon) Otten-Harding of Springville, one sister, Lorna (John) Ellis of Colfax, Washington and a brother, Irvin (Shirlee) Hinz of Davenport. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Micah (Kim) Jackson, Mattea Otten and Vanessa Harding. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Eleanor Dorothy, brothers, Elroy and Babe and a grandson, Thomas Gibson.
Junior was born on March 28, 1926 in Anamosa the son of John and Mabel Boucher Hinz. He graduated from Anamosa High School in 1947. He married Betty L. Brown on February 24, 1949 in Anamosa. Junior was a lineman for the Maquoketa Valley R.E.C. for 37 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Wapsipinicon Country Club, Tapken’s Coffee Club as well as proudly serving in the Navy during WWII.
Junior enjoyed golf, visiting friends and family, reading, walking, and the Honor Flight that took him to Washington DC. last year to see the WWII Memorial.
Memorial donations may be given to Camp Courageous, Mercy Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice.
