Robert Floyd Yerington

Robert Floyd Yerington, 79, Muscatine, died Saturday January 8, 2011, at All-American Care in Muscatine. The Rev. Mary Howell will lead the family and friends in a memorial service at the Moose Lodge, where he was a long time member. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Mr. Yerington was born November 19, 1931 in Rochester, IA to Robert A. and Vada (Stewart) Yerington. He married Shirley Mae Cox on February 24, 1951 in Iowa City. They had 4 children. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School, class of 1949. He worked as a carpenter for most of his life and was also a professional square dance caller for 34 years, calling dances throughout the United States and Canada. He recorded several albums and single square dance records. He often said, “Not many people have a job that they love and I had two.” He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Kentucky Colonels. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Chicago Cubs, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his 7 great-grandchildren. His hobbies included word puzzles, gardening, canning, playing on the computer, genealogy, and reading. His family will remember him for his delicious homemade salsa, for being the master of Wheel of Fortune, and for his ever-present bib overalls. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 59 years, Shirley of Muscatine; one daughter Deb Droll and husband John of Ridgedale, MO; three sons, Donald of Tipton, Richard and wife Mary of Bloomington, IN; and Roy and wife Donna of Muscatine; thirteen grandchildren, Nikole Carver, Travis Wendt, Justin Droll, Robert Yerington, Michelle Yerington, CJ Yerington, Tracie Ihle, Courtney Burton, Rob Gleason, John Gleason, Nathan Yerington, Jasmine Yerington, and Austin Yerington; and seven great-grandchildren, Jacob Burns, Olivia Carver, Sofia Carver, Jocelyn Wendt, Carson Wendt, Amelia Ihle and Thomas Ihle. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Bill.
