Martin Charles Bruene

Joyce and Family, Learned today of Martin's recent death. We are thinking today. Sister Shellee shared with me how much she enjoyed being Martin's chaperone during the Corn Carnival grand parade. A proud moment for sure. I know that he enjoyed that. My only regret is that there wasn't a "pause" or "slow motion" button to hit as Martin, Doc and the entire group of veterans passed by. I will cherish fond memories of him too. Whether it is from recently, whenever in town. His smile and wonderful attitdude, always had time to chat. Or memories from way back when on the farm, being so ever friendly . We can cherish those fond memories but also need to focused on today and help create similar wonderful memories with our friends and kids. (Saint) Martin and so many other saints would want us to think that way. There isn't a time when I'm driving down an Iowa blacktop that I don't think about Grandpa C.D. He helped plant a tradition that I've kept up with .. tracking down wild aspargrass. Someday, maybe next summer, I'll help show 7 year old nephew Garret (a cancer survivor himself) the ins and outs of harvesting it. In the meantime maybe C.D. a WW II vet himself and Martin are having a friendly chat ... just maybe. They're saying something about how those Iowans down there will survive this blizzard, how April will bounce back from a job loss and just catching up in general. Shalom to you, Mikl Parsons

Spending summer days at the farm, I can still hear Martin's voice and see with my mind's eye his walk across the yard. Always the voice of reason and the loud "Hey what are you doing up here?" when April, myself and our classmates are partying in the barn. I have many good memories with your family from my youth. I remember Martin helping me on my first trail ride and always encouraging me to try again when I would fall off Smokey while using the saddle pad. Don & I both hope that the heartache that you feel today will soon turn to precious memories. Blessings of peace, Don & Mona (Sonkens) Cook
