Robert L. (Chub) Fulwider, 83, of 406 Jordan Drive, Anamosa, IA, 52205, passed away July 4, 2 009, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness. (He was a 24-year survivor of cancer) Arrangements are with Cremation Society of Eastern - Central - Western Iowa. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa. Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris Elaine Wilson; his three sons, J. Steven (Jane) Fulwider of North Liberty, Michael L. (Janan) of Anamosa, and Cris A. (Dorothy) of Port Hueneme, CA; a sister, Mary L. (George) Postel and a brother, Laverne L. (Margaret) Fulwider, both of Anamosa; eight grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, Forest L., Sr. and Marjory; two brothers, Forest L., Jr. and Richard; a stepbrother, Dean Campbell; a baby daughter; and a grandson, Steven Orcutt Jr. On January 3, 1926, Robert was born in Mt. Vernon, IA, to Forest L. Fulwider and Marjory Smith Fulwider. After serving for two years overseas in the Air Force, WWII, he returned home and graduated from Anamosa High School in 1946. Robert was the recipient of a 2004 Service to America WWII Veteran Award and a 2007 Double Service Award for a WWII Veteran and for the Anamosa School District. He was proud to be a Life Member of American Legion Post 0298. For more than thirty years he worked as an employee of the State of Iowa: at the Anamosa Liquor Store, as Manager of the Monticello Liquor Store, as an Anamosa School Bus Driver, and as a Corrections Officer of the Anamosa State Penitentiary. Robert enjoyed playing cards with his family, was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, and seldom missed watching televised golf tournaments – with special loyalty to Zach Johnson. Robert’s burial with military honors will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. A Memorial Fund in his honor has been established at Citizen’s Savings Bank, Anamosa.
