Donald Eugene Brown
Don was a great teacher and a good member of the community. He will be greatly missed. Kevin and Susan Tapken
It's been approximately 55 year. It seems like yesterday since I sat in mister Browns biology class but I remember it as if it were yesterday. Mr Brown Was one of the class of 59 most loved and respected teachers. Don you will be missed by all of us. May you Rest in peace
High School calss of 1979. He demanded excellence from us and he earned respect from those who understood that he was teaching more than just science.
He scared me to death the first day of biology class even though my sisters had warned me of his toughness. Through science club and several trips to Chicago a funnier and caring side of him was revealed. He truly was the best teacher I ever had and I will always appreciate the time he took to write a very kind reference for me. The teaching profession has lost a terrific member. May Mr.Brown rest in peace knowing he taught and touched so many lives in such a positive way.

My condolences to Don's (Mr. Brown to us) family and friends. I recall him as an enthusiastic and fun teacher way back in the late 60's when I studied with him. He had a quick wit and great, wry sense of humor, and I recall him fondly. He was a good teacher and a very nice man. I'm happy to have been able to have him as a teacher.
My condolences to the Brown family. Mr. Brown was a tough teacher but I learned so much in his classes, I was way ahead of my peers in college because of what I had learned in the advanced biology course. Rest in peace Mr. Brown.

Don will always remain in my high school memories as a teacher who was dedicated to making sure that his students learned all he could teach.

We are so sorry for your loss. Our Aunt Barbara was Don's sister. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Becky Burright-Smith and family
I had Don as a teacher during the late 60's. If you ever needed a teacher to prepare you for college, he was the one. He always told it like it was,and never hesitated to offer his advice when you needed it. A true educator from day one. Teachers like Don will be missed.

Carol,so sorry to hear about Don. So thankfull you called to let me know, otherwise I would have missed it in the paper. I'm sure he will be missed.
As a member of the AHS Class of 1969, it has been over 40 years since Don taught us Biology. There have been few teachers that have left more of an impact with his firm and demanding style. I also got to see another side of Don while working for him mowing his pasture and helping take care of his horses. I saw the passionate pursuit of his hobby and the compassion that he showed for his animals that one would not expect after seeing his stern presence in the classroom. Anamosa has lost a truely unique individual and educator.

Mr. Brown was the meanest. But you had to love him. I have wonderful memories of a stubborn educator. I learned a lot from him. I waited to take his 9th grade class until I was in 10th grade. Being the third Williams kid to walk through his doors, I had plenty of stories to scare me. Wasn't so bad, once I stood up to him. He will be missed.
