Donald Eugene Brown

Donald Brown, 77, of Anamosa died Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 at St. Lukes Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. A memorial luncheon will be served on Sunday, February15th, noon to three at the Wapsi Golf Clubhouse in the Wapsipinicon State Park, Anamosa Iowa. Don is survived by his sister Carol Boose (Tony) of Poplar Grove, Illinois, several nieces and nephews and close friends Austin Raubs, Danielle Jorgenson, Sophia Dirks-Raubs, Mike and Nancy Shaffer, Jan Doschadis, Luci Durchenwald and spaniels Missy and Tucker. Don was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara Deviney, Ralph Deviney and niece Tamera Boose and spaniels Barrie, Buddy and Monte. Don was born December 9, 1931 in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Glenn and Helen (Biever) Brown. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Waterloo (1950) and Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls (UNI) in 1955. Don was a lifelong educator and spent his entire teaching career in the Science Department at Anamosa High School. He retired from teaching in 1993 and then served a term on the district school board. Don''s great passions in life were his beloved cocker spaniels, showing horses, motocross and teaching. His interests and opinions touched many lives. He was a member of the UNI Alumni Association. Any memorials should be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society, 742 Mt. Vernon Rd. SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family and friends would like to thank Hospice, Dr. Ghosh and staff and all supportive services who helped Don over the last several years.
