Beverly A. Motto

My wife and I are saddened to hear of the death of Bev Motto. She was always kind to us and helped us when I moved over here from Nebraska and worked at the Bakery. May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

Bev, we miss you so much. My mind tries to comfort my soul by reassuring me that you are in a better place, that you no longer feel pain, and that, in a special way, distance is no longer about miles and time... you are now with all those you love whenever they think of you. My heart, on the other hand, finds it difficult to do anything but grieve for your loss - grieve that, next time we visit your home, you won't be there to hug, joke with, or shower us with your warm love. We love you and miss you so much, as we always will. We find some comfort in knowing that, in time, we will see each other again, and that time it will be forever. Frank, we love you so much, and Bev's children. And whatever we are feeling, we know it is infinitely more difficult for you. Know that we have not stopped thinking about you, and we are so thankful that Bev will live through you and through your love for her. With Love, Andrew, Christine, Laura and Sarah

I will remember the first time I met Bev and Frank. I was a waitress at 7 Nations and they would come in every Friday and meet Bruce for lunch. 5 years later, I was Bev's doubles partner playing racquet ball at Knollwood. We had so much fun and I will cherish those memories. My deepest sympathy to all of the family. Patty Diekema

The impact my Grandmother had on me was as impressionable as her paintings. Before the showing of dogs, she and Grandpa showed her grandkids. Making boxes out of old cards, taking us to the beach, and I think their favorite, out for dinner. Grandpa has shown me the love for Hockey,Travel, and Good Food. They have spoiled us and still do. I now have the privilege of giving these things to my children. I wait to see Grandma again, will miss her deeply, and Thank the Lord above she was given to us. Thanks to all of her friends for your thoughts, and shared memories. Love you and patiently waiting to join you again.

A note from your loving woofers... Dear Mom... We all miss you so much. Our fine Pekingese coats were always so well groomed, our bellies were always so full of fine home cooked food. We thoroughly enjoyed our trips to dog shows or simply being home with you. We love you and will miss you always xxxxxx

Bev was a wonderful friend with such varied interests. It was always fun to hear how she got started in oil painting, gourmet cooking, racket ball, acting in skits (I’d have loved to see Frank and Bev in the Alley-Oop skit), “collecting” chicken figurines and battery-operated Halloween figures, painting houses, playing Reversi, and our favorite shared interest, Pekingese! Bev always seemed to have a calmness about her. Nothing seemed to ruffle her feathers. She took everything in stride. Even a big win with one of her Pekes was a study in understated pride and joy. I’ve been the thankful recipient of Bev’s bountiful generosity with the gift of a few of her original paintings and a lot of her wonderful cooking! Oh my, everything from roast pork and dumplings to spaghetti – perfection. I’ll cherish my memories of her: sitting on the sofa playing Reversi on her laptop, carefully grooming Dancer at a dog show, kidding around at a restaurant with Dustin while we wait for our order, a tender moment kissing Frank as we left the hospital the last time I saw her. Goodbye, Bevy!

Bev was truly one of God's angels here on earth. She was a bright light, an always smiling face, and a cherished friend. My heart breaks for her family and friends, and our only consolation is that she is free of pain and is surely at peace. The world is a poorer place now and oh, how we will miss her!

We remember Bev as a fun-loving, family-loving person. She enjoyed socializing and playing racquetball at Knollwood. We remember her great deviled eggs. We often saw Frank & Bev at our favorite watering hole/restaurant - Papa's. Bev was a classy lady & will be missed. We're thinking of you, Frank, Jodi & Bruce and the rest of your family.

I have been privileged to spend happy times with Bev Motto. Whether it was sharing a couch with her and little black PeeWee, while we watched Frank bone up on his Spanish with the "chachas" on the TV out of Miami; or sitting around her generously spread table feasting with Frank and Arlon and Barb and Connie and Dustin "talking dogs"; or listening to words of wisdom born of a lifetime of observing people, I have been blessed by the pleasure of her company. Bev was good company. Frank and the family and all of the rest of us who have been touched by her spirit are the richer for it.

Christine and I first met the Mottos back in 2003 as Frank was walking one their prized 'woofers' (Dancer we think) past our house on 1st Avenue South in Clear Lake, IA. From that moment Frank, Bev, the dogs and us spent many great evenings with one another, building garages, drinking copious amounts of fermented grape juice, trips to Menards, feasting on Bev's fine cooking, spending entire evenings lazily lingering in the cozy, warm Motto lounge room while having a 'Pekingese foot bath'. Unfortunately we now live in Houston, TX and have two infant daughters which makes it very difficult to visit (1000 miles away). However we will be driving up to that special place of Clear Lake at the end of May to visit Frank and the dogs and look forward to it immensely. Frank and Bev always lived life to the fullest and we all know that their dogs were indeed the luckiest little creatures on Earth... Bye bye Bev, we shall all see you in time. xxx

Bev was a very good friend of my grandma and I always enjoyed making visits to Clear Lake to go visit her and Frank. I loved playing with her little ankle bitters ;-). She loved those dogs so much. I will really miss her smiling face. The last time I had the chance to see her was at my wedding in February and I am very greatful that she had the chance to spend that very special day with me. You will be very very missed Bev but we will meet again!
