Lester Clyde Troster

Lester Clyde Troster was born April 13, 1946 and passed away at Clearview Nursing Home, under the care of Hospice of Central Iowa, on July 26, 2008 after a 5 year battle with cancer. Dad graduated from Tech High School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1965. A son, Steven, was born to a first marriage in 1966. In 1969, Dad joined the United States Navy and served during the Viet Nam war. In 1970 he married Martha Elizabeth Skala Kiene and became a stepdad to her three children: Joana, Jeff and Laurie. After his discharge from the Navy in 1973, the family left San Diego and made a home in Delphos, Iowa, where he would live until his death. A daughter, Bobbie Jo, was born into the family during this year. Over the years, Dad worked for Hanifen Body & Paint and Gibbs-Cook Equip., Des Moines, Iowa; Country Boys Lumber, Ringgold County and Calhoun Concrete, Mt. Ayr, Iowa; and Dexter R.V. in Winterset and Corning, Iowa. An avid hunter and fisherman, most of Dad''s free time and almost all weekends and family vacations centered around camping somewhere! He dreamed of owning a "back forty", building a log-cabin and living off the land! "Papa" to 15 grand/great-grandchildren and "Uncle Les" to several nieces and nephews, he loved having the little ones around, watching them play, giggle and grow! He also loved playing tricks on anyone and everyone! He had a temper known to all who knew him, but he also had a generous and giving heart and loved to be able to help his family or friends whenever he could. Dad was a private man in most all areas of his life, and his spiritual walk was no exception. He was baptized when he was 13. While we can only have hope for his eternal future, we can make sure of our own. Survivors include his beloved wife, Martha; daughters: Joana (Kelly) Putvain, Laurie (Perry) Holmes and Bobbie (Chris) Novak; sons: Steven Troster and Jeff (Danielle) Kiene; mother: Clair Troster Heaton; sister: Vicki (Doug) Agee; brother-in-law: Richard Drake; sister-in-law JoAnn (Cliff) Bailey; step-family: the Grismore''s; Grandchildren: Nikie (Ken) Kirk, Brandon Dunfee, Jenny (Jed) Morin, Brock Kiene, Tylar Powers, Hayden Holmes, Elizabeth, Emma and Ella Novak; Great-Grandchildren: Jesse, Morgan and Hunter Kirk, Tristen Dunfee & Asher & Addison Morin; and many extended family members. A memorial will be held August 9th from 1-3 PM at the REC community room in Mt. Ayr, Iowa.
