To all of Carl's family and friends; Curtis and I offer our deepest condolences. Carl left terrific daughters and son who will carry his spirit through everything they do.

I came across this obituary after Googling Carl's name...it took my wife's and my breath away to discover that Carl had passed. The last time he and I spoke must have been back around 2000 (or whenever he was at Lakenheath). He mentioned moving to Alabama and after that we lost touch. Carl and I were roommates in the Intelligence Technical Training school, back in 1977 at Lowry AFB CO. He was quite easily the most interesting young man I'd ever met, quite well read for a lad and always with that twinkle in his eye. We were both stationed together again a few years later in Germany, at an airbase that's still there--Spangdahlem. We shared a couple Thanksgivings and Christmases together along with a few cigarettes and more than a few drinks. Ours was a wonderful friendship marked by much laughter and some absurdly hilarious moments in our office, the 52 Tactical Fighter Wing targets shop. Carl was an expert in our trade, but even more gifted with his wicked wit and sense of humor--we loved to watch him bust the top guys' chops! I'm pretty sure I still have photos from those days around here somewhere, and a lot of other memories. I'll like this world a whole lot less knowing Carl's left it. This was a good man. May God forever rest his magnificent soul. If any of his family wants to get in touch, they can reach me at 757-871-1317 or at the email above.

He was a great man... I think he saved my life. I was on the path of drugs and alcohol and he pulled me back down to reality. Told me stories of his days growing up and told me I wasn't the only one who'd been on that road. My life is ever changed because of him. His death still sits on my chest to this day, easily bringing tears to my eyes with just a passing thought. I miss you dude. All the love in the world....

I’m in shock. Carl was a very good friend to me for a short time. I met Carl in Germany at the 52 Tactical Fighter Wing at Spangdahlem Air Base, back in 1979. He, Steven King, Ben McNeely and I formed a close friendship. He was very smart, with a sharp wit, and a sharp tongue to match. When it was time for him to leave Germany and head off to Florida, for his next assignment. We bought 7 day Brit-rail passes and spent seven days travelling the United Kingdom, Sleeping on the train at night and waking up either in London or somewhere in Scotland. We were both fascinated with Scotland at that time. I’ve missed your company over the years, and your sharp wisdom. If his family would like to contact me, I can be reached at the posted email.

Dad - it's hard to find the right words to say at a moment like this. You were a truly amazing father and a wonderful part of my life. I am so grateful for each and every memory we shared and I look forward to the day when we will be together again. For now, I’ll watch for you in the shadows as I know you will always be watching over me. I love you and miss you so much. Shannon Kirton
