James Ivan Rose

James Ivan Rose, 79, of Mt. Pleasant died March 6, 2007 at the Henry County Health Center following a short illness. Memorial Services 1 PM Sunday, March 11, 2007 at Mt. Pleasant Country Club and Golf Course. Private family inurnment: Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa. Survivors include sisters Marilyn Curnow of Postville and Patricia Duffey and husband Peter of Iowa City; brother David Rose and wife Wilma of Brighton, CO.; close friends Elizabeth Kerr, Gayle Rupp, and Terry and Linda Stith all of Mt. Pleasant; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Virginia Jennings. James Ivan Rose was born September 30, 1927 in Cedar Rapids the beloved son of Ivan G. and Marjorie (Stubbs) Rose. He was a 1945 graduate of Iowa City High School, and went on to the University of Iowa to study journalism. He was employed for over 42 years at Mt. Pleasant News as the Sports Editor. He had also previously been employed at the Monticello Express, an award winning weekly. During his time at Mt. Pleasant News from 1949 to 1991 he had a column called “Sports Through Rose Colored Glasses.” James had received numerous writing awards, including the Iowa High School Distinguished Service Award. He was a loving brother, uncle, and friend of many. Memorial donations may be made to Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club at 2275 Hickory Ave., Mt. Pleasant, Iowa 52641, c/o Jim Rose.
