Jeanette Carlson Baty
Dearest Jack, Our family was recalling some of our favourite times from travelling this great globe; one of the top, best memories of all for all of us was spending time with you and your amazing wife Jeanette. Whether on Indian Isle or at our house in Radnor, we thrived on your "health giving BM's" and steering the houseboat up the Mississippi River, fishing off the docks while Jeanette lopped the heads off the fish that Jason & I caught as fast as we could pull them up, Jeanette talked me down when I got a leach, assuring me that Cleopatra used them as a beauty treatment. Susan & Ed still say to this day,if it wasn't for Jeanette's ultimatum that drunken night on Indian Isle, they never would have gotten married. Susan remembers most fondly the cruises at dusk, a BM in hand. Ed remembers pulling Bubbles out of the river before the poor, cranky lil doggy could sink. We mourn together now for your loss. much love, Susan, Ed,Chavaleh xox
Denny and I send our deepest sympathy. I am blessed to have such wonderful memories of Jeanette and your family. You are in our prayers.
Jack, Our sympathies to you and family. Jeanette will be greatly missed here, on Indian Isle and at UNI games. I share stories with my children of time spent on Indian Isle whenever we go to the river and boat past the cabin. Jeanette was a super neat lady! John and Bridget Bunge
Jack and family, Our deepest sympathies on Jeanette's passing. She was a wonderful, kind, intelligent woman, and we will miss seeing her on our visits to Indian isle.
Jeanette Baty was a gracious hostess to the hordes of crazy college kids from the Northern Iowan newspaper staff who regularly descended upon Indian Isle in the early 1980s. We cherish our memories of the "health-giving BMs," blackjack, croquet, cookouts, houseboat rides, and the little Pomeranian dog that was "too GD mean!" On a more personal note, I also recall a cross-country motor home trip during which I sat next to Jeanette at a blackjack table in Las Vegas, worriedly watching as this turban-clad cancer survivor determinedly fought back chemo-induced nausea to keep playing her cards--more concerned about doubling down than throwing up. Our traveling party of seven went on to see the Batys' beloved Hawkeyes get trounced, 28-0, in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day 1982. Apparently Jeanette kept her courageous zest for life to the end. She will be remembered fondly and missed. My heartfelt condolences to Jack and his family.
Jeanette was a lovely, kind, strong woman of humour & principle. She made a huge impression on me as a child, when she & Jack so kindly invited my family & I to Indian Isle to enjoy summers fishing, boating, water skiing and enjoying "health giving BM's~!"
Dear Jack, I was shocked and saddened to learn Jeanette was hospitalized these many weeks and you have lost your lifetime love. I remember seeing the two of you on many occasions, the most recent was at the Gallagher, and observing how you so naturally belonged to each other. There was something special in the space between you that left the observer feeling there wasn't any space at all. May the spaces in your heart and mind continue to hold her dear. Some departures can be bridged with memories that are but brief moments in time. Len Froyen
My deepest sympathies in your loss of your wife, mother and grandmother to the family. Jeanette was always kind and welcoming to me, I will always remember her as my freshman English teacher at Osage and my old friend's mother and such a gracious woman.
