Harold E. Woodford
I was very sad to here about the passing of Woody. As a boy in the early seventy's I worked for three years at the Lighthouse every night after school and before they opened up. My Mother and two of my Brothers also worked for Woody. I have very fond memories of Woody and Dorothy, as they both were very good to me as I was growing up.I would have to say that I devoloped my love for tropical fish from them, especially Oscar's. As they would let me come back in to their apartment to watch Woody feed them. Woody helped me get my first fish tank and showed me how to set it up. After they retired they invited me to stay with them at thier Cabin in Guttenberg for a week and Woody took me fishing and amazed me with his knowledge of the Mississippi river. My sincere sympathy goes out to the family for Woody will be greatly missed.
Some of my most vivid and fondest memories during my 41 years have interestingly enough involved Woody. I remember going to the Lighthouse when I was really young and feeling special when Woody would make me a "Kiddy Cocktail". A few years later, he and Dorothy sent us all the way back to Arizona with a batch of baby rainbow cichlids who survived the whole journey in a cottage cheese container. After they moved to Guttenberg, it became one of my favorite vacation spots. I learned to water ski there and loved going out on the boat where Woody knew the river like the back of his hand. The birds, wildlife, the barges; it was awesome. And our whale watching trip to Mexico just a year and a half ago . . . that was a TRUE adventure and bonding experience that I will forever cherish.
I just wanted to say what a pleasure it was to get to know Woody. The entire staff enjoyed getting to know him and loved taking care of him. He was deffinately a bright spot at our facility. We were very lucky to have him be a part of our lives. You have our deepest sympathy. Cindy Werling Mechanicsville Nursing & Rehab
My condolences to all of "Woody's" family. My father, Virgil Woodford, always spoke highly of him and often spoke of him as his childhood friend and idol. I only wish I'd had the opportunity to get to know him better. Phil Woodford
