Dennis Dean Murphy

Dennis D. Murphy Sr., 70 of Cedar Rapids died November 2, 2006 in his home following a long battle with cancer. Graveside Services 11 AM Tuesday at Linwood Cemetery. Rev. Christine Wagner-Hecht of Hospice of Mercy will officiate. Arrangements and Cremation entrusted to the Cremation Society of Eastern Central and Western Iowa. Dennis is survived by his partner Lois, a son Bryan, a son Dennis Jr., and daughter Denise, one brother Eugene Murphy, and Aunt Betty Reynolds of Marquette, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, a brother Marvin, a sister Ethella, a nephew Tim, a niece Natalie, and a Great Great niece Elizabeth. Dennis Dean Murphy, Sr. was born May 11, 1936 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the beloved son of Clare and Winnafred (Reynolds) Murphy. He worked for Ann and Paul Miller piloting the Kappa Ann. He worked for Coonrod and then for the City of Cedar Rapids Streets Department for 30 years. He was a Boy Scout leader and Scout Master for many years. He enjoyed riding RAGBRAI many times as well as the Wisconsin rides (GRABAAWR) He donated plasma. He was proud of his membership as a 3rd degree Mason at Crescent Lodge # 25 AF & AM, and a member of El Kahir Shrine Temple. He enjoyed camping, biking, helping others, and spending time with his family and friends. Dennis was a great father, brother, uncle and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Crippled Children.
