William Weininger

William W. Weininger, 81, passed away October 27, 2026, after a brief but brave battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

He was born at home near Walker, Iowa on December 29, 1944 to Rose Helen (Hopper) Weininger and Vernon Wesley Weininger. He went to schools in Center Point and Walker, and graduated from Troy Mills HS in 1963, then attended Cedar Rapids Business College.

Bill worked at Younkers, where he met Diann Pankey. He and Diann married on August 5, 1967.

William proudly served in the Army from 1966-1968 and was honorably discharged. He worked at Iowa National Mutual Insurance, then United Fire and Casualty, retiring in 2010.

Bill loved his family first and foremost, and enjoyed spending time with Diann and his boys, and attending his grandkids’ school events. He loved family get togethers, traveling, fishing and watching old westerns on tv.

He looked forward to seeing friends at the Freedom Foundation and was part of the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight in 2023.

William is survived by his wife Diann, sons Chris (Amy) and Jason (Becky), grandchildren Paige, Travis, Lydia and Logan, and sisters Marilyn Hemphill and Carolyn Andrews (Walt).

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers in law Robert Hemphill and Kevin Ealy.

Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, November 7, from 1-3 at Eastern Iowa Arts Academy, 2630 B Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, IA
