Jean L. Newton
With heart’s full of gratitude and deep sorrow, we sadly announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Jean. Surrounded by her family on October 4, 2026, at the age of 84.
Jean L. (Schick) Newton was born on May 17,1942, to Carl and Erna (Fischer) Schick. Jean graduated from Reinbeck Community School in 1960.
On September 4, 1965, Jean was united and marriage to Larry Newton at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Reinbeck, Iowa. Later became an active member in the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center, Iowa.
Jean and Larry were blessed with two sons Brian and Bradley.
Jean retired from the Grundy Center Community Schools in 2010 as a high school custodian.
Her four grandchildren Michael, Eric, Bailey and Grant were her greatest joy. She never ran out of hugs, encouragement, or love. She stayed busy going to their many activities.
She will forever be remembered for her baking of pies, cookies, her canning, picture taking, puzzle making, word finds, her mean game of spoons, Uno, nightly popcorn, and of course her infamous Christmas bingo!
Her devotion and steadfast commitment to her family was felt in every quiet act of kindness and in every celebration they shared. She hosted many holidays, fish fries, marshmallow, and hotdog roasting nights. There was always room at her table. Her home was a place for prayer, laughter, love and she welcomed everyone. She will forever be cherished.
Left to honor her memory include her sons, Brian (Karla) and Brad (Lori); grandchildren, Michael (Alyssa), Eric (Alarie), Bailey (fiancé Logan Klenk), and Grant (Lauren Strohbehn) Newton; three great grandsons, Liam, Kipton and Landry Newton. Jean’s first great granddaughter will be arriving soon. Jean was proceeded in death by her husband, Larry (1995) and her parents.
Her family is planning a private graveside service.
