James Paul Holck
James Paul Holck passed away peacefully with his family at his side on October 10, 2026, at his home in Mount Vernon Township, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. He was the first son and third child born to Robert Frank Holck and Alvina Jane Martin Holck on July 9, 1941, at the farm home in Linden Township, Winnebago County, Iowa. As per Jim’s wishes, there will be no service. Memorials may be offered to the family.
Jim moved with his family to Britt where he was raised with his siblings. As a youth he attended the Methodist Church receiving a Bible for attendance. He participated in football and wrestling while in high school graduating in 1959. The family moved to Arizona where he attended Arizona State University. While there he enlisted in the US Air Force on November 8, 1961, was in training at Biloxi, Mississippi, deployed to Newfoundland at Gander Air Force Base where he worked on maintenance of radar disk units, then discharged from Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, Maine on November 5, 1965.
Jim’s work history as a hard and devoted worker started as a child alongside his mother working the peat fields pulling weeds. He was a well-known farm hand for many farmers in the North Iowa region. Jim retired in 2007 after 21 years as a cross-country truck driver for US Mail Contactor from Des Moines to Los Angeles.
Though Jim was a quiet, stand-behind-the-crowd, kind of man He enjoyed his family. Besides traveling from Mason City to Britt on a snowmobile, he gave rides to his cousins in the Crystal Lake area. He was a hunter and fisherman in his early years sneaking up on a pheasant in the grass, catching it without firing a shot. He enjoyed picnics with his aunts, uncles and cousins. Card games and horseshoe were other special interests. His most enjoyment was keeping up with Kathy and Andy on the acreage whether it was feeding livestock, repairing or tearing down buildings, mowing, trimming or going to the old Truck Stop or PM Park for pancakes. Many times, you would find Jim at tractor pulls with Andy.
Jim met Kathryn Lou Hakes through mutual friends of the family. On March 11, 1974, they were married at the Little Brown Church near Nashua, Iowa.
Surviving family members are his wife, Kathy; son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Marcella Holck as well as several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are brothers-in-law: Vance, Harry and Sue; sisters-in-law: Juanita and Jerry; Gayle and Harlan; Virginia and Jerry.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Alvina, and siblings: Janice, Joanne, Darrell, Mary Jane and Leon.
The family offers many thanks to the MercyOne North Iowa Hospice nurses for their kind care during his last days.
