Shirley Arlene McArthur
Shirley Arlene McArthur, 80, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family with arrangements.
Shirley was born on March 25, 1946, in Central City, Iowa, the daughter of Francis and Myrta (Betzer) Andrews. She graduated from Central City High School and later attended Paris Beauty Academy. Throughout her 30-year career, she worked at several beauty salons.
Shirley was united in marriage to Virgil Douglas McArthur on February 27, 1965, in Central City, Iowa. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil McArthur of Central City, Iowa; two children, Amber (Jim) Aiken of Hiawatha, Iowa, and Aaron (Stephanie) McArthur of Central City, Iowa; two grandchildren, Nicholas McArthur of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Ethan McArthur of Central City, Iowa; and a sister, Lani (JJ) Jarrell of Glendale, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Harold Andrews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to their close neighbors, the Central City Fire Department, Center Point Ambulance Service, and the ICU nurses and doctors at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital for the exceptional care Shirley received. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and family.
