Richard Harry Heacock
Richard Harry Heacock, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died on May 23, 2026, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, surrounded by his loving family. The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026, at New Covenant Bible Church in Cedar Rapids with visitation at 3:30 p.m. and service at 4:30 p.m. Casual attire.
Richard “Rick” Harry Heacock was born on March 30, 1943, in Waterloo, to Arlene Tullis and Robert Heacock. A natural athlete, Rick graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1962 and attended Ellsworth Community College on a football scholarship. He later earned his degree in Executive and Advanced Accounting from Gates Business College. Rick honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1968. During his service, he was stationed on a nuclear submarine, serving on the Admiral’s communication staff as a Petty Officer 2nd Class E-5.
On February 20, 1965, Rick was united in marriage to the love of his life, Nancy Moser, in Waterloo. Together, they rooted their lives in faith and family. Rick’s professional journey was marked by integrity and leadership. He began his career as a controller at Carnation Dairy Company. He then served as Vice President and CFO of Apache Hose and Belting Company. His business career concluded at Hunter Specialties in Cedar Rapids, where he retired in 2008 as CFO. Above all, Rick was a devoted follower of Christ. An active member of New Covenant Bible Church, he found great purpose serving as a discussion leader for Bible Study Fellowship (BSF).
Rick was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, pickleball, history, and traveling. However, his greatest joy was his family. He was a constant presence in the lives of his grandchildren and held a special place in his heart for the family “granddogs.”
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose life was a testament to his faith.
Rick is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Nancy; his children, Susan (Bob) Busch, Chris Heacock, and Brian (Aricca) Heacock; his five grandchildren, Avery, Madison, Olivia, Max, and Charlie; and his siblings, Steve (Gerri) Tullis, Tim (Candy) Tullis, Michelle (Tom) Rising, and Paula Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Julie Tullis and Mike Heacock.
Rick’s family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to all of the staff at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their exceptional care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Covenant Bible Church, North Center Point Road, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
