Paul Clair Vogt

Paul Clair Vogt, known for his humor and devotion, passed away on May 12 at the Des Moines VA Hospice after a battle with kidney cancer. Cremation rights have been accorded, and a service will be held later.

Paul was born on August 30, 1936, to Perl and Blanche Hawn Vogt. He attended Grundy Center Schools, graduating in 1954.  After volunteering for the draft, he served in the United States Army from January 1955 to December 1956. He attended Morningside College and Iowa State University, then returned to Grundy Center where he worked for Rouse Motors and the Post Office before beginning his career with the Grundy County REC in 1965, retiring in 2001.

On April 3, 1970, Paul married Marlys Werkman, who he affectionately called Molly. They shared a lifetime of love and devotion that was an inspiration to those that knew them.

Paul was devoted to his faith and the Green Bay Packers, becoming an “owner” of the team in 2011 when they sold shares to fans. He loved to brag about this and attended numerous games. As a lifelong sports enthusiast, both playing and watching, he had a passion for the Iowa Hawkeyes, college basketball, and the NCAA tournament. Paul loved playing cards, going to the casino, and traveling throughout the US.

As a proud veteran, he was a lifetime member of AmVets and participated in an Honor Flight in 2014. He was a member of Colfax Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Molly; daughter Kim; son Greg (Jade and Leo); sister Sandy Guilliams (nieces Suzie and Cathy); brother Mel (Cinda); along with many extended family and friends.

Paul touched many lives with his humor and love of life. He was a proud husband and father and will be missed by all that knew him.
