Michelle Ann Schmuecker-Koopman
Michelle Ann Koopman, 64, of Newhall, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church in Newhall, IA. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Newhall Park Pavilion.
Michelle is survived by her husband, Duane Koopman; daughter, Amanda Clark (fiancé Anthony Hynick); sons, Dillon Bartosh (Natasha Bartosh) and Austin Bartosh (Jamie Bartosh); grandchildren, Madison Clark, Kendall Clark, Johanna Bartosh, and Leanna Bartosh; and great-grandchildren, Remi Clark and Boone Elwick.
She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Mark Schmuecker, Melanie Brehm Fenner, Kelly Brehm Krambeck, Troy Brehm, Dean Brehm, Dennis Brehm, and Cody Brehm.
Michelle was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and JoAnn Schmuecker; stepmother, Kathy Schmuecker; brothers, Mike Schmuecker and Shane Brehm; father-in-law, Charles Koopman; and brother-in-law, Dennis Koopman.
Michelle was born on May 13, 1961, in Dubuque. She was adopted by Melvin and JoAnn Schmuecker and later welcomed Kathy Schmuecker into her family when Melvin remarried. Michelle later formed a meaningful relationship with her biological mother, Janice Brehm. She attended Norway High School.
On August 11, 2001, Michelle married Duane Koopman in Newhall, Iowa. She dedicated more than 30 years of her life to caring for others through her work at Colonial Manor of Amana before retiring to help Duane with the family trucking business.
Michelle had a deep love for animals, especially her cats and dogs, whom she considered part of the family. She enjoyed camping, spending time outdoors, nature, plants and trees, and antique shopping. Michelle was known for her kind heart, caring spirit, and unwavering love for family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
