Kent Moore
Kent Moore passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 12, 2026. He was born on September 15, 1952, and grew up to live a life defined by music, family, friendship, and a quick wit that brought joy to those around him.
A celebration of life will be held at the Monticello Eagles Club on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 5 – 7:30pm.
Kent graduated from Anamosa High School in 1971. From an early age, he discovered a deep love for music, picking up the guitar in his early teens. His passion led him to perform with Dale Chapman’s intermission band, marking the beginning of a lifelong musical journey. He later founded his own group, Kent’s Kountry Kombo, and took great pride in their performance on the Leo Greco Show. Kent continued his musical career for many years, concluding in 1990 with the Moonshine Band. Even after stepping away from performing regularly in a band, music remained close to his heart, and he could often be persuaded to join in as a guest musician. To Kent, his bandmates were more than fellow performers, they were family.
Kent dedicated 45 years of his professional life to Star Manufacturing, demonstrating strong work ethic and loyalty throughout his career.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carolyn and Merlin Moore; his infant brother, Kim; his sister, Karla; his father-in-law, Bob Zirkelbach; and his sister-in-law, Paula Moore.
Kent is survived by his wife, Becky, whom he married on August 22, 1992, and who he considered the love of his life. Through his first marriage, Kent was blessed with two children, Jason and Lindsey. In marrying Becky, he lovingly gained two more daughters, Catana and Jill.
He is further survived by his children: Jason (Angie) Moore and Lindsey (Brandon) Markley, Catana (DJ) Goedert, Jill (Mike) Mitchell; his cherished grandchildren: Adam, Allison, and Alexis Moore; Owen Moore; Josh Hertenstein; Zoiie Fuller; Kaitlyn and Aiden Markley; Kayla Denniston; Karley and Khloe Goedert; and Zach, Samantha, Elianna, and Maddox Mitchell; along with his treasured great-grandchildren.
Kent is also survived by his brothers, Kip (Tami) and Kyle (Donna) Moore; his sister, Kandi (Jon) Alderdyce; his mother-in-law, Ruth (John) Zirkelbach; his brothers-in-law, Kim (Jo) Zirkelbach and Tony (Terri) Zirkelbach; his sister-in-law, Holly (Marty) Kenison; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Known for his quick wit and warm spirit, Kent treasured his friendships deeply—believing that once he made a friend, he had one for life. He never missed an opportunity for a social gathering and found genuine joy in being surrounded by others.
Above all, Kent loved his family. He especially cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, who knew him as the best Grandpa anyone could ask for. His legacy of music, laughter, and unwavering love for those around him will live on in all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Family would like to thank the staff with Monticello Nursing and Rehab and Above and Beyond Hospice for the comfort and care they provided.
