Richard Lee Inman

Richard Lee Inman of Bettendorf, Iowa, 97, passed away on March 12, 2026, at The Summit of Bettendorf, with family by his side.  Visitation will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bettendorf, Iowa, at 10:00 on Saturday, April 11, 2026, followed by a memorial service at 11:00.  Memorials may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Habitat for Humanity.

Dick was born October 5, 1928, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Myron and Flossie (Kucker) Inman.  On June 20, 1948, he married his high school sweetheart, Iona Marie Alpers, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, Iowa.  They celebrated 69 years of wedded bliss before she passed away in 2017.

Dick was an avid family genealogist and an 11th generation American.  He grew up on the family farm near Vinton and was proud of the fact that the Inman farm has remained in the family since 1879.  He graduated from Lincoln High in Vinton, Iowa, and attended Iowa State University.  He farmed in partnership with this father and was named Outstanding Young Farmer in Benton County in 1960.  Dick and Iona were active in Farm Bureau activities and were advisors for the Rural Young People program for many years.  The family moved to Bettendorf in 1963, where Dick was associated with Walgreens and Montgomery Ward.  He operated Inman Trucking Company until retiring in 1993.  He was a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church since its inception in 1966.

Dick and Iona were blessed with four loving children:  Scarlet (Robert) White, Bettendorf; Susan (Willard) Newman, Davenport; Scott (Peggy) Inman, Milan, IL; and Tim Inman, Marshalltown, IA.  He has seven grandchildren: Robert White, Tony White, Sara Pearson, Amanda Motto, Jonathan Newman, Marcus Newman, and Maddie Inman, and 12 great-grandchildren.  Dick is survived by all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his sisters-in-law, Karen Inman and Claudette Alpers, and many beloved nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Dick was predeceased by his wife and life-partner, Iona, his parents, and brothers, PFC Robert Inman in 1945, and Roger Inman.

The family wants to thank the many loving “grandchildren” in the Sierra Household at The Summit, where he lived for the last 3-1/2 years and was treated with endless kindness and dignity.  We also want to thank MercyOne Genesis Hospice for their guidance and comfort.
