Raymond Leroy Wagehoft

Raymond Leroy Wagehoft, 84, of Coralville, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on March 27, 2026. Visitation and service will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Coralville, Iowa on Friday, April 10, 2026, starting at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Oakhill Cemetery in Coralville, Iowa.  

Raymond was born on July 18, 1941, in his family home in rural Pawnee, Illinois. Raymond graduated from Morrisonville High school in Illinois. He enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1960 in Springfield, Illinois. He completed his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Raymond was called to active duty for one year during the Cuban Crisis, 1962. He completed his 6 years of service in 1966.

He married Myra Ryan on June 7, 1964, in Garden Grove, Iowa. They welcomed Laura Ann to their family in 1969 and Ryan Lee in 1975.

Raymond farmed with his father for several years before going into sales. He worked for Moorman Feed Company and Means Services, prior to moving to Coralville, Iowa to sell Wausau Homes. In 1979 he started his own construction and remodeling business, Wagehoft Home and Land, Inc. retiring from that business in 2011. After retiring from remodeling Raymond drove buses for the Iowa City School District and then began transporting vehicles for U-Haul. He officially retired again in 2020.

He was a lifetime Lutheran. He was a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran in Monticello, Illinois, where he served on the board and as an elder. After moving to Coralville Raymond became a charter member of Prince of Peace. At Prince of Peace Raymond served terms as a board president, an elder, a trustee, and taught the Sunday school class for Junior High-High school members. 

Raymond became a charter member of Vintage Cooperative of Coralville in 2016, where he gained a treasured community of friends. 

He is survived by his wife, Myra Wagehoft; daughter, Laura Ann Wagehoft; son-in-law Joseph Whetstine; grandson, Bryce James Wagehoft; great-grandson, Bentley James Wagehoft; sisters, Irene (Allen) Johnson, Della (Jim) Niemann, and Rhonda (Bill) Matthews; brother, Harley (Deb) Wagehoft; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 Raymond was preceded in death by his son, Ryan Lee Wagehoft, his nephew, Brent Matthews, his grandparents, Ben and Pearl Wagehoft, William Oscar and Della Mae Botrell Himstedt. His parents, Kenneth and Charlotte (Himstedt) Wagehoft, a sister, May Ilene and a brother, Herman Oscar.

Gifts in Raymond’s honor can be designated for Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of Coralville or Compasses of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
