Phillip James Nelson
Eloise, Kari, Jodi and Sean, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have fond memories of Mr. Nelson as a teacher and also as a neighbor. May your memories bring you comfort during this difficult time. Kate Franken Castells
Eloise, Jodi, Kari, Sean and your families, I’m so sorry for your loss. Our families shared so many special memories—Mexican nights on Olive Street (Eloise truly made the best!) and those wonderful summers at Stalker Lake. Your dad had a lasting impact on me. I became a lawyer in part because he made me the attorney in our junior high mock trial—and I loved it. I’ve never forgotten that. Thank you, Phil, for inspiring and guiding me at just the right time. ❤️ Thinking of all of you and sending love. Ann
I recall Phil fondly, both as a teacher and as a colleague of my father, Donald Scovel, who was Chair of the Social Studies department at MLPH/NUHS. My father was not handy, and Phil would often help out with small projects, including when my father wanted to build a scale railroad layout in our basement. I also have a great teaching memory of Phil, when we were doing a roleplaying game in class about the struggle between labor unions and the industrial capitalists. He was a great teacher.
