Linda Sue Cox
It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the passing of Linda Sue Cox on March 31, 2026. Linda left this world peacefully, surrounded by the love of her devoted daughter and husband, bringing to a close a life marked by compassion, resilience, and unwavering love.
Born on October 7, 1949, in the charming town of Savanna, Illinois, Linda was the cherished daughter of Clifton and LaVonne Yappen. She carried the values instilled by her beloved parents throughout her life, embodying the spirit of kindness and strength they imparted to her. Linda was the heart of her family, a devoted wife to Randall Cox, with whom she shared 32 wonderful years of marriage. Their union, beginning on August 28, 1993, was a testament to shared joys and adventures. Together, they found happiness in life's simple pleasures, from scenic drives through the countryside to afternoons spent tending to their garden or the occasional spirited trip to the casino. Their greatest joy, however, was the time spent with their family, enveloped in love and laughter.
Linda's legacy is carried on by her surviving family: her loving husband Randall Cox; her children, Robert (Rachel) Petersen, Patrick (Marti) Petersen, Dorrin (James) Graves, and Sara Kessens; her stepdaughter Amanda Meyer; her siblings, David Yappen, Sharon Cornelius, Carol Engler, and Patrick Yappen. Her nurturing spirit lives on in her 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, each a testament to her enduring love and guidance.
Linda's life was one of service and care; she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to looking after others, finding immense joy in her role as a caregiver, especially to her late grandson, Keith Graves. Her legacy of love and care extends beyond her family, touching all who had the privilege of knowing her. In her leisure, Linda expressed her creativity and warmth through baking, gardening, sewing, and knitting. She was known for her straightforward, no-nonsense advice, a quality tempered by her boundless affection and zest for life. Her friends and family fondly remember her as a "spicy ray of sunshine," a woman whose hugs could brighten the darkest of days.
A private funeral ceremony will honor Linda's life, in keeping with the family's wishes. In this time of reflection, the family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon, Iowa, and Moments Hospice, whose exceptional care and kindness provided comfort and support during Linda's final journey.
As we say goodbye to Linda, we celebrate a life filled with love, warmth, and unwavering spirit. Her memory will forever be cherished, etched into the hearts of those she loved so dearly. May she rest in eternal peace, her legacy of love and laughter continuing to inspire us all.
