Dennis Ray Dittmer

Dennis Ray Dittmer, 79, of Stanwood, Iowa, passed away March 31, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held from 12-4 PM on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Tipton VFW Hall. Military Rites are tentatively scheduled for May 1st at Rochester Cemetery. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.

Dennis was born on October 20, 1946, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Arthur Raymond and Erma Marie (Persson) Dittmer. He graduated from Starmont High School in 1964. Dennis was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He was a proud veteran and was a 50-year member of the American Legion. Dennis retired as an operating engineer from Seedorff Masonry, Inc. (SMI) after 40 years of service. In addition, he was a member of Local 150 International Union of Operating Engineers. He enjoyed carpentry and liked to tinker. Dennis kept himself busy and rarely stayed in the same place for very long. Some other things that Dennis enjoyed were playing euchre and pool, drinking Old Milwaukee Beer, listening to 1970’s classic rock music, spending time at the VFW, and squirrel hunting.

Steve Eden, nephew shared these thoughts about Denny, “Denny was a man among men. He danced to his own music with his own style, always had a smile and a helping hand. Always my Hero. I have many great memories I cherish growing up, taking our weekend trips to Strawberry Point. Denny never met a stranger. Denny has left us to join all the Dittmers before us. His legacy will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace.”

Survivors include his sister, Betty Dittmer of Strawberry Point; significant other, Jane Shultz of Tipton and her daughter Holly (Quincy) Schott; sons, Mark (Jessie) Asher of Kansas City, MO, Matthew (Kyla) Asher of Bellevue, NE, Dennis Pettit of Tiffin, and Colin Dittmer-Flynn of Union, MO; and countless nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Judith; siblings, Mary Eden, Jean Larkin, Neil, Norbert, Wendell, Dwight, and Duane Dittmer, Bill and Lou Haasis; and many other family members.
