John Gottlieb

John Gottlieb, 79, of Iowa City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026.

John was born on June 4, 1947, in Davenport, Iowa, to William and Susan Schaap Gottlieb. He lived a full and adventurous life, marked by his entrepreneurial spirit, love of learning, and deep devotion to his family.

John was the owner of Cycle Industries in Iowa City, where he built a successful business and lasting relationships within the community. Outside of work, he found joy in gardening, traveling, exploring history, forest bathing, and rugby. Above all, he treasured time spent with his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness.

John is survived by his daughter, Chloë Allgood; his beloved grandchildren, Doak Allgood, Piers Rodd, and Lucia Allgood; his sons-in-law, Alan Allgood and Peter Rodd; and his siblings, Liz Rechkemmer, Linda Cohen, Judy Cohen, and Barb Nevins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Anderson Gottlieb; his children, Sarah and Nathan; and his brother, David Cohen.

John will be remembered for his curiosity, generosity, sense of adventure, and the love he shared with family and friends. His memory will continue to live on in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Action for Youth of Johnson County, Iowa.
