Duane C. Lynch

Duane C. Lynch, 81, of Charles City, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A celebration of life will be held on his birthday, July 11, 2026, will be from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Elks Lodge in Charles City.

Duane was born to Jesse and Flora (Williams) Lynch in Charles City, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Doris Trask for almost 61 years on June 26, 1965 in Charles City. Duane was a self-made businessman owning and operating many businesses in Charles City.  He began with the DX Gas Station and later the Standard Oil Station that was sadly destroyed by the 1968 tornado.  He and Doris then bought Cedar Crest Motel in Charles City and Duane worked for Dorfman’s Auto Parts in Waverly.  In 1985, he purchased and managed City Motor Parts for 20 years before merging with CarQuest and retiring in 2003.  Even after retirement, he continued his entrepreneurial success by negotiating a deal, making a sale or flipping a house.

Duane and Doris enjoyed hosting family gatherings and watching grandkids activities and events. He loved using his car knowledge and experience to find the first car for each grandchild.  Duane was an avid storyteller and jokester. He would recount his childhood as filled with pranks and well-intentioned shenanigans. He was hardworking, innovative, and always had a unique anecdote up his sleeve. He took pride in his 25 years as a Reserve with the Floyd County Sherriff’s office. His favorite pass-time was tinkering in his garage where the door was always open for family, friends and neighbors. Good conversation, jokes and lots of laughter were a guarantee for your visit. Most recently, Duane and Doris enjoyed taking rides in their new black convertible mustang that he said he bought for Doris.

Survivors include his loving wife Doris and two daughters, DeAnne (Mike) Mrachek of Lee’s Summit, MO; and their children, Jordan, Kate, and Jacob. Kate and her husband Ian Burch have one son, Henry, and a baby on the way. Dena (Cary) Perez of Charles City, and their children Emma and Riley. Also surviving is his brother, Gaylan (Pat) Lynch of New Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Flora Lynch and brother Dwight.

The family sincerely thank all who have reached out or stopped by to show support. As many have said and continue to say, “He was one of a kind!”.
