Patricia “Pat” Lynn Crile
Patricia “Pat” Lynn (Dowis) Crile, 74, passed away Monday, July 6, 2026, surrounded by her family at Bickford of Marion, Iowa.
Pat was born March 6, 1952, in Washington, Iowa, and was the oldest child of Richard “Dick” and Mary Dowis (Randall). A member of the class of 1970, Pat graduated from Washington High School. She then attended Northeast Missouri State College, the University of Iowa, Kirkwood, and DMACC and obtained an AA in Healthcare Administration. Pat spent most of her career as a medical administrator at Washington Medical Clinic, Washington County Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City Heart Center, Fansteel, and the Cancer Information Center at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Pat took an early retirement from the Cancer Information Center in 2013. After retiring, Pat moved to Aurora, Colorado in 2014, returning to Iowa in 2022.
Pat was the proud mother of Jill (Newhouse), Cory, and Tim. She taught them how to be strong and independent, and the importance of a perfectly timed eye-roll or sarcastic joke. Pat’s proudest accomplishment was being the grandmother of seven grandchildren. Maddy, Tyler, Lucas, Lucy, Reece, Carly, and Levi. She enjoyed attending all of their games and performances in Iowa and Colorado. Pat was never without photos or stories of her grandkids to share with her friends, neighbors, and coworkers. When she wasn’t scrapbooking photos of her family, Pat was busy making each of them a quilt that matched their personalities and interests. Pat was an avid scrapbooker and quilter. Most weekends she could be found in her craft room or at a retreat with her friends. While living in Colorado, Pat was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Denver, Colorado. After returning to Iowa, Pat was involved with the Comfort Makers quilt group at First Lutheran Church of Cedar Rapids.
Pat is survived by her brother, Mark Dowis (Kathleen) of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Jill Newhouse of Marion, Iowa; son, Tim Crile (Heather) of Marion, Iowa; and daughter-in-law, Emily Crile of Aurora, Colorado. Pat is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Maddy Newhouse (Evan) of Marion, Iowa; Tyler Crile (Starr), of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Lucas Newhouse of Marion, Iowa; Lucy Crile, of Aurora, Colorado; Reece Crile of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Carly Crile of Aurora, Colorado; and Levi Newhouse of Marion, Iowa. She is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by her son, Cory Crile of Aurora, Colorado, and her parents, Richard “Dick” and Mary Dowis of Washington, Iowa.
A celebration of life will be held October 10, 2026, in Washington, Iowa. A memorial has been established in her name at Bickford of Marion, Iowa in appreciation for all the care they provided Pat during her residence there.
